The legendary Streif is no longer just the stage for the world’s most famous ski race. Year after year, it attracts professional athletes and amateur sports enthusiasts from around the world, all eager to take on the ultimate challenge – Vertical Up.

This unique event transforms the steep downhill course into a gruelling vertical ascent, testing not only physical fitness but also the courage and endurance of each participant.

The race is tackled from bottom to top – and in the dark! When registering, participants can choose between two categories:

Speed class – Conquer the original racecourse: 3.312 km and 860 metres of vertical ascent as fast as possible. The fastest men and women will be crowned champions.

Backpack class – A more flexible route that avoids the steepest sections. Here, the goal is fun and strategy – the winner is the one who finishes closest to the average finishing time of all participants.

In both classes, participants are free to choose their gear – as long as everything is powered solely by their own strength (no motors allowed).

Despite the personal challenge, Vertical Up is about more than just competition. Participants motivate and support each other, sharing their passion for this incredible adventure. The event creates a special sense of camaraderie that goes beyond the race itself.
